Everton vs Arsenal Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Friday, February 3, 2023 3:45 am

Struggling Everton host leaders Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime with the beleaguered Toffees hoping to benefit from the ‘new manager bounce’ at Goodison Park.

Everton

Everton appointed Sean Dyche earlier this week and the former Burnley manager will be tasked with keeping the struggling Toffees in the top flight. With a new stadium in the offing as well as an expensively assembled squad, the Merseyside club cannot afford to slip into the second tier and they have turned to the 51-year old to try and save their season.

Dyche tends to favour a more physical approach to games and his teams tend to be tough to beat. The Toffees are only two points shy of safety and if he can get a tune out of his players, they will surely start climbing the table over the next couple of weeks.

Goals have been an issue for the Toffees this season and they’ve found the net on just 15 occasions in their opening 20 PL matches. You have to go back to October 20th for the last time that the hosts were victorious at this venue.

Arsenal

Arsenal’s FA Cup exit may be a blessing in disguise. The Gunners can now put all of their eggs in one basket as they close in on the Premier League title. Mikel Arteta’s side have been superb this season and they’ve been particularly effective on their travels. They’ve won each of their last three away games and have scored 2+ in each of them.

They’ve been victorious in eight of their ten matches on the road and have been breached on just six occasions. The Gunners will be buoyed by the signing of Jorginho from Chelsea this week, further bolstering their impressive squad.

Arteta’s men have kept clean sheets in five of their last six visits to bottom half PL sides. They will be full of confidence heading into this tie, although the appointment of Sean Dyche is likely to make it tougher for the impressive leaders.

Head to Head

Arsenal have won each of the last two meetings between these sides, however, Everton were victorious when these two last met at Goodison Park in December 2021.

The Gunners have dominated this fixture in recent years, winning 19 of the last 32 meetings.

The visitors have tended to struggle at this ground and they have failed to take maximum points since October 2017. Nacho Monreal, Mezut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette were amongst the goal-scorers in a convincing 5-2 victory.

Key Betting Stats

  • Arsenal have conceded just six times away from home this season. Only Newcastle have conceded fewer goals than the Gunners overall this campaign.
  • Everton have scored just nine times at Goodison Park so far this season. Only Wolves have netted fewer home goals than the Merseysiders.
  • Matches involving the Toffees have been fairly low-scoring this season. They have averaged just 2.15 goals. Only West Ham and Wolves games have averaged fewer.
  • Although they have struggled at home, Everton have managed to keep three home clean sheets so far this season.
  • Martin Odegaard has netted in each of his last three PL away games. He also found the net in his last visit to Goodison Park.
  • Sean Dyche won each of his first two matches in charge of Burnley with his side keeping a clean sheet in each of those contests.
  • As a manager, Sean Dyche has won just one of his 15 meetings with Arsenal. His side have been on the losing side on 11 occasions.

Match Prediction

Arsenal should have enough to win this match comfortably, however, Everton are a much tougher proposition under Dyche. The Toffees players will be keen to impress and they should battle throughout the 90 minutes. Nevertheless, the visitors should have enough quality to eventually unlock the home defence.
