Manchester City will be looking to take a step closer to the Premier League title when they welcome Leeds to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The match kicks off at 3pm.

Manchester City

Although they took a while to break down a stubborn West Ham back-line, Manchester City eventually found a way to ease to victory in midweek.

City have looked unstoppable in 2023 and have failed to win just once across all competitions since the beginning of February. They’ve been particularly ruthless on their own patch and have scored 3+ goals in each of their last eight games here.

Erling Haaland continues to break all sorts of records and he received a guard of honour after netting his 35th Premier League goal of the season, surpassing the previous record which was set by Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer.

Under Pep Guardiola, the club have now netted 1000 goals and their title charge is unlikely to be halted by relegation-threatened Leeds.

The hosts have a point advantage at the top of the table and they also have a game in hand on Arsenal.

Leeds

Leeds rolled the dice on Wednesday by sacking Javi Gracia and replacing him with ‘survival expert’ Sam Allardyce. The club are desperate to preserve their Premier League status and have turned to the man who has rescued numerous clubs from the dreaded drop.

The Whites have been in poor form and this is far from the ideal fixture.

They are level on points with third-bottom Nottingham Forest and have picked up just a single point from their last five outings. Their 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth was particularly harrowing with the Cherries having been touted for relegation just a few weeks ago.

Leeds fans tend to make Elland Road a fortress, yet they have struggled on the road recently and have won just twice on their travels all season. They’ve actually taken points off Newcastle, Man United and Liverpool on the road, however, they were battered by Arsenal at the Emirates and this could be equally as tough.

Head to Head

Leeds have struggled against Manchester City recently and have conceded 14 times across the last three meetings. However, they did pull off a shock victory at this stadium in April 2021 with Stuart Dallas scoring an unlikely double. This success was even more remarkable considering they had been reduced to ten men in the first half.

Despite this, City have tended to dominate this fixture and have won four of the last six meetings.

Key Betting Stats

  • Man City matches have been hugely entertaining this season with matches at the Etihad averaging 4.29 goals per game.
  • Leeds matches away from Elland Road have also been fairly high-scoring with an average of 3.29 goals per game.
  • Leeds have kept the second fewest clean sheets in the top flight with just five shutouts from their first 34 matches (15%). They’ve kept clean sheets in just 6% of their away matches.
  • City have scored 57 of their 87 goals at the Etihad Stadium this season
  • The hosts have covered the -2 handicap (won by two clear goals) in each of their last eight home matches across all competitions.
  • Kevin De Bruyne has the most assists in the PL (16).
  • City have drawn the fewest matches in the Premier League and just 6% of their matches at this stadium have ended all-square.

Match Prediction

Despite the presence of Sam Allardyce in the opposition dugout, Leeds are unlikely to upset Man City. The hosts look unstoppable and should continue to dominate at the Etihad. City can’t afford any slip-ups and will not be taking their foot off the gas just yet.
