Bournemouth vs Spurs Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Wednesday, August 23, 2023 8:56 pm

Spurs make the trip to the south coast on Saturday lunchtime to face Bournemouth. This game kicks off at 12:30pm UK time and will take place at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth are yet to taste victory under new coach Andoni Iraola, however, their performances have been fairly pleasing and the former Rayo Vallecano boss should be relatively pleased with his side’s early-season displays. They were more than a match for West Ham in their first home game of the season and another entertaining 90 minutes is to be expected. Although they were never expected to go to Anfield and collect three points, they competed admirably and were leading for 25 minutes before succumbing to some quality finishing.

The hosts have signed US midfielder Tyler Adams from Leeds this week and the midfielder could be line for his debut this weekend. Iraola described him as a ‘really good player’ and if he can recreate some of his displays from last season, then he should be able to help his side control games and win the ball back in the centre of the park.

Although it was under different management, Bournemouth’s home record last season was fairly patchy with three of their six victories coming against bottom four sides.

Iraola’s Vallecano’s side were one of the most entertaining teams to follow in La Liga and averaged a home xG of 1.91. Their home games averaged 2.63 goals per game and with BTTS having landed in each of their two matches so far, they are likely to be involved in some high-scoring affairs.

Spurs

Spurs are looking good under Ange Postecoglu and they were deserved winners last weekend against Manchester United. They created numerous opportunities and openings with ‘Ange ball’ already proving a hit with supporters.

The North London outfit finished last season poorly and they were particularly ropey on the road. They won just one of their last seven away games and that came against relegated Leeds. Without Harry Kane, they appear to have far less firepower in the side, however, having scored four times in their opening matches, any concerns around Kane’s departure appear to have been alleviated.

James Maddison has settled in nicely and they have looked slick going forward. Although the level of competition was negligible at times, Postecoglu’s Celtic outfit were a high-scoring outfit last season and fans are understandably enjoying watching their side’s attacking patterns of play.

Despite their underwhelming finishing position, Spurs’ record against bottom half sides last season was impressive. They lost just twice when travelling to sides positioned 10th or below during the 2022-23 campaign.

Head to Head

These two sides played out a couple of entertaining 90 minutes last season. Both fixtures ended 3-2 with Spurs prevailing at the Vitality, however, they somehow conspired to be defeated 3-2 when hosting the Cherries at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Three of the last four meetings between these two sides have finished with that exact score-line.

Spurs have actually failed to score in two of their last three visits to this venue. It’s hard to imagine that record continuing.

Key Betting Stats

  • There have been 15 goals scored across the last four meetings between these sides
  • Spurs’ away games averaged 3.74 goals per game last season
  • The visited kept clean sheets in just 21% of their away games last year.
  • Spurs have fired in 28 shots across their opening two PL matches this season.
  • Bournemouth home games averaged 2.53 goals per game last season
  • Pape Matar Sarr has averaged 3 shots per game so far this season. He’s also found the net.

Match Prediction

We appear to be in line for another crazy 90 minutes in Dorset here. Spurs are far more attack-minded this season under Ange Postecoglu and Bournemouth will not be sitting back. Last season, they played out a couple of 3-2s and this could be a similar outcome.
