Arsenal vs Manchester United Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Saturday, September 9, 2023 11:55 pm

The highlight of Sunday’s Premier League fixture list comes from North London as Manchester United travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal. This game kicks off at 4:30pm UK time.

Arsenal

Arsenal are still unbeaten at the Emirates against Fulham, however, it was far from a vintage display from the Gunners last weekend. Despite dominating the xG and firing in 16 shots from inside the box, Mikel Arteta’s side weren’t able to collect maximum points and they’ll be desperate to bounce back against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts conceded after just 57 seconds against Fulham and having failed to keep a clean sheet in their first two home matches, Arteta will be keen to tighten up at the back here.

The North Londoners don’t appear to be having any issues creating chances with Bukayo Saka missing a glorious opportunity in the first half against the Cottagers and they should be able to take advantage of the uncertainty within Manchester United’s back-line.

Fabio Vieira looked sharp upon his introduction last weekend and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Portuguese midfielder given a chance to impress on Sunday afternoon.

Although they are struggling to keep home clean sheets (just one in the last nine), they have lost just once in the last ten matches at the Emirates and fans will be feeling confident of securing three points here.

Manchester United

Manchester United also showed vulnerabilities at the back last weekend as they found themselves two goals down to Nottingham Forest. Although the Red Devils eventually came back to win the game 3-2, it was far from a convincing performance with a controversial penalty proving decisive.

Although there are signs of life within the United camp, Erik Ten Haag’s men are yet to convince and this could be a potentially tricky away trip. Although they probably deserved to notch against Spurs, the Red Devils were unable to find the back of the net. They’ve won just three of the last ten away games, one of which came against relegated Leeds. Interestingly, each of those three victories involved United keeping a clean sheet. If they fall behind away from home, they don’t tend to bounce back.

United’s squad still looks a couple of players short, although summer addition Rasmus Hojlund is yet to make his debut. The Dane, who will be heading out on international duty next week, looks set to make his long-awaited debut this weekend.

Head to Head

United haven’t enjoyed their recent visits to this stadium and have picked up just a single point from a possible 12. They were defeated 3-2 in this fixture last season with both Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka both getting on the scoresheet.

Man United’s last victory at this venue came in 2019 when the pair met in a third round FA Cup tie. Their last PL victory at this venue arrived back in 2017 with Jesse Lingard netting twice.

This could be an entertaining one as there have been 18 goals across the last five meetings.

Key Betting Stats

  • Arsenal have scored exactly three goals in each of the last 2 home matches against Manchester United
  • United have failed to score in three of their last four away games
  • November 13th was the last time that United won a game without keeping a clean sheet.
  • United conceded an average of 1.74 goals per game on the road last season.
  • No Manchester United play has scored more than a single goal so far this season
  • All of the goals that Arsenal have conceded so far have either been in the first ten minutes or the final ten minutes of games.

Match Prediction

Arsenal will fancy their chances of bouncing back from last weekend’s disappointment and they are usually a reliable source of goals at the Emirates. They also have an excellent record against Man United and should be able to continue that on Sunday. United look shaky at the back and have tended to struggle on the road.
