Burnley vs Everton Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Wednesday, December 13, 2023 9:47 pm

Two sides battling it out at the wrong end of the Premier League table meet at Turf Moor on Saturday evening as Burnley host Everton. This game kicks off at 5:30pm UK time.

Burnley

Burnley have accumulated just eight points in the Premier League so far, although Vincent Kompany’s side have picked up 50% of those across their last three matches. The general concensus is that the Clarets have been playing reasonably well without getting the results that they deserve.

They managed to battle their way to a point last weekend against a decent Brighton outfit and having also thrashed fellow strugglers Sheffield United, they can take some confidence into this Saturday evening tie.

They have been the better side in the majority of their home fixtures so far outshooting both Crystal Palace and West Ham despite coming out on the wrong side of both games. Their matches here are averaging 3.75 goals per game and they have taken an average of 10.63 efforts on goal per match here.

Vincent Kompany has a handful of injuries to contend with. Luce Koleosho has looked lively so far, however, he is now sidelined for several months. Lyle Foster, Josh Cullen and Jack Cork are also missing alongside Charlie Taylor, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend and will be suspended for this one.

Three points would potentially take them above Luton this weekend, however, a victory would not be enough to see them leap out of the relegation zone.

Everton

Everton’s ten point deduction plunged them back into the relegation mire, however, they have accumulated nine of those nine points in the last ten days. The Toffees are one of the form sides in the division having been victorious in four of their last five matches and in five of their last seven. Sean Dyche, who comes up against his former employers here, will fancy his sides chances of continuing their superb form on Saturday night.

Despite beating both Chelsea and Newcastle at Goodison Park recently, the visitors have actually been far better on the road this season. They’ve won four of their last five away from home and have lost just twice – at Villa Park and Anfield. They are unbeaten when visiting bottom half opposition and have kept clean sheets against both West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

Although goals have been an issue this season, Everton will be boosted by the fact that have netted five times across their last couple of games. They’ll also be hoping to extend their run of three consecutive Premier League clean sheets.

Unfortunately, they will be without both Idrissa Gana Gueye and Jarrad Branthwaite with both players having picked up their fifth yellow of the campaign against Chelsea. They will be joined by Seamus Colman, who hobbled off against Newcastle. Michael Keane is also a doubt.

Everton away games have been fairly entertaining this season and they’ve averaged exactly three goals per game on their travels.

Head to Head

Recent games between these two sides have been very entertaining. Everton cruised to victory at Goodison Park in the EFL Cup last month (3-0), however, they haven’t previously met since April 2022. The pair shared nine goals between them during the 2021-22 campaign with both sides picking up a victory.

During the 2020-21 campaign, Burnley won 2-1 at Goodison Park whereas the game at Turf Moor ended all-square (1-1).

Everton have picked up just a single win at Turf Moor since 2014. That victory came in 2018 with the Toffees emphatically triumphing 5-1. Luca Digne netted a brace.

Key Betting Stats

  • Everton have conceded an averaged of 1.57 goals per game on the road.
  • Two of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s three goals this season have been scored away from home.
  • 40% of the goals that Everton have conceded this season have come in the final 20 minutes.
  • Burnley have conceded an average of 2.5 goals per game on their own patch.
  • Burnley have kept a first half clean sheet in each of their last two home matches.
  • Both of Jay Rodriguez’s goals this season have been scored at Turf Moor.

Match Prediction

Burnley have been poor defensively this season, however, there are signs that they are slowly turning a corner. They kept a clean sheet in each of their last two home clashes and heavily restricted both Wolves and Brighton in recent away trips. Everton may have to be patient this weekend.
